A communication stack 300 allows control information to be communicated between a wireless modem and a computing device without interrupting a desired data transfer therebetween. Control information such as the real time battery level, current status and signal strength of the wireless modem can be displayed so that a user of the computing device is aware if any problems arise during the desired data transfer. The communication stack comprises a communication application operating in conjunction with the computing device to provide the desired data transfer, a first device driver for interfacing the computing device with a first portion of a UART in accordance with the desires of the communication application, and a second device driver for interfacing the computing device with a second portion of the UART for providing control information between the computing device and the wireless modem. |
