摘要 |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium of high output which is controlled in its surface state and is reduced in spacing loss even if a polishing stage of a magnetic layer is not executed. SOLUTION: Acicular ferromagnetic metallic powder 7 mainly composed of Fe having a major axis length of <=100 nm is used and the ratio of the atom numbers of iron and carbon when measured by setting an angleθformed by the detector 6 of an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic measurement instrument an the its surface at 5 deg. is specified to >=0.05. The center line average height Ra of the upper magnetic layer 6 is specified to <=8 nm, the thickness of the layer to <=0.05μm and further the squareness ratio in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic recording medium is specified >=0.88.
