摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high yield even when a screen is made large by equipping an intermediate substrate with a thick part and a thin part prescribing mutually parallel grooves crossing signal electrodes isolated by the thick part. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal cell 1 has an upper substrate 3, an intermediate substrate 8 which is arranged facing the upper substrate 3 across a spacer at a given interval, and a liquid crystal layer 5 as a display medium layer provided between the upper substrate 3 and intermediate substrate 8. The intermediate substrate 8 has the thick part 14 and thin part 13. The thick part 14 secures the mechanical strength of the whole intermediate substrate 8 and the thin part 13 secures sufficient electric connection between a discharge area and the display medium layer (e.g. liquid crystal layer 5). Accordingly, this intermediate substrate 8 has sufficient mechanical strength at the thick part 14, so even when the screen is made large, the operability is not decreased. Further, the thin pat 13 and thick part 14 are structured in one body and there is no join at their border, so that the yield is extremely high.
