PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the overheating and firing of a large-capacity secondary battery. SOLUTION: This secondary battery is basically comprised of a positive electrode 1, a negative electrode 2, and a separator 3, the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2 having active materials 5a, 5b applied to their respective metallic foils 4a, 4b, and having tabs 7a, 7b attached to their respective portions 6a, 6b to which the active materials are not applied, the tabs 7a, 7b being connected to electrode terminals. An overcoat 12 is applied to cover the surfaces of the part 6a of the positive electrode 1 to which the active material is not applied and the tab 7a, and the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2 are combined into a roll structure with the separator 3 therebetween in such a manner that the tab 7a of the positive electrode 1 is located on the inner periphery thereof while the tab 7 of the negative electrode 2 is located on the outermost periphery thereof. The high heat of the part 6a to which the active material is not applied is shut off by the overcoat 12 to prevent the separator from being melted before shutdown. |
