PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) switch capable of efficiently transferring many items and large volume of statistic information to a network management device. SOLUTION: At the time of identifying that a received ATM cell is a special cell (1) 46 for an ATM statistic information gathering request from the network management device 11, these ATM switches 12-14 recognize the kind of the statistic information to be gathered from the payload part of the special cell (1) 46. Then, the statistic information corresponding to it is sampled, mounted on the special cell (2) 47 and returned to the network management device 11 and transfer relating to gathering of the statistic information is performed by using the ATM cell.
