METHOD FOR SMOOTHING PICTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the moire of a picture and to make a scale of a processing circuit smaller in a picture smoothing method where smoothing is executed by opening the window of (n) picture elements (n>=1) with respect to the picture element of interest. SOLUTION: The window consisting of the n(n>=1) picture elements in picture data is opened, picture data 2 in the window is referred to and a moire removing processing is executed in unit of the picture element of interest in the picture smoothing method. The method is provided with a first smoothing means for dividing the (n) picture elements in the window into m(n>=m>=1) groups 3a, 3b and 3c and executing the smoothing processing in a group unit and the second smoothing means for executing the smoothing processing through the use of (m) data which are outputted from the first means and the smoothing processing is executed by the first and the second smoothing means. It is favorable that a median filter is used for the first and the second means.
