The compact consists of a base (12) and a lid (14) of synthetic resin materials, each shaped to form part of a hinge (16,18) connected by hinge pins (20). The hinge pins are made from three concentric layers of materials: an outer layer (42) of a soft resin material, an inner layer (32) of a hard resin material, and a connecting layer between them.
