PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve the telephone number of a desired party by adding the image information of an individual registered on a telephone directory to the name of that individual, on adding the image data of the employee of a company in the case of a company's name. SOLUTION: The image information of an individual registered on a telephone directory is added to the name of that individual, on in the case of a company's name, the image data of the employee of that company are added. When retrieving any registered telephone number using this equipment, a retrieval key is pressed by a character input means 4, and the first letter of the registered name of the telephone number to be retrieved is inputted. A number retrieving means 10 retrieves the inputted character from a data storage means 9, and when there are matching data, the name, telephone number and party's terminal class of these stored data are displayed on a character display means 11. When information showing the presence of additional images is stored, that image information is read out of an image storage means 3 and images are restored by an image extending means 5 and written in an image display memory 7 so as to be displayed on an image display means 8.
