PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display additional information corresponding to an interactive operation by a viewer. SOLUTION: An additional information encoder 41 encodes additional information to generate an additional information elementary stream and provides an output of it to a multiplexer 13. The multiplexer 13 multiplexes a video signal, an audio signal, and the additional information elementary stream. An additional information encoder 42 decodes the additional information elementary stream fed from a demultiplexer 32 under the control of a system controller 34. A MODEM 43 makes communication of information with a prescribed server via a public network corresponding to an interactive operation by a viewer with respect to the additional information. A memory 44 stores the decoded additional information.
