Total knee prosthesis with femur and tibia joint

The total knee prosthesis uses stops (6) to block any longitudinal rotation of the femur when the joint is extended. In this extended condition, the stops (6) make simultaneous co-operative contact with the inner sides (31a,31b) of both thigh bone ends (31a,31b) as compared with knee joint flexure in which case the stops make contact alternatively with the inner sides of one or other thigh bone end (20a,20b). The interval between the two thigh bone inner sides increases from front to rear. The stops can make co-operative contact with the thigh bone ends from the extended to a given flexed condition, notably 45 deg . The stops are firmly connected to the tibia plate (4) which in turn is located in relation to the tibia stems (3). The stops can also be fixed to these stems and in this case are received in a hole (18) provided in the plate (4). With the plate mounted rotatably on the stems (3), the stops are necessarily fixed to these (3).
