PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a machinable metal/inorganic fiber composite excellent in plating suitability and also to provide a heat sink free from occurrence of solder crack and deterioration in adhesion to a radiation fin. SOLUTION: The composite material is formed by impregnating a metal into a formed part prepared by providing a porous inorganic structure and a fibrous inorganic material adjacently to each other. It is preferable that the porous inorganic structure is composed of one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of silicon carbide, aluminum nitride, silicon nitride, alumina, and silica and that the fibrous inorganic material is composed essentially of alumina, silica, boron nitride, aluminum nitride, silicon nitride, silicon carbide, or carbon. The heat sink is produced by using this composite material. |
