PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treating method capable of increasing specific surface area, pare volume and pore diameter of a carbon fiber. SOLUTION: This surface treating method of carbon fiber comprises a step dispersing a metal element having hydrogenation activity into carbon fiber and a step heat-treating the carbon fiber in which metal element is dispersed in reductive atmosphere. A metal element having hydrogenation activity used for the method is e.g. at least one kind of metal element selected from a metal element group comprising iron, nickel, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and platinum. Dispersed amount of such metal element is usually set to 0.01-5.0 wt.% based on carbon fiber. |
