PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve both the sensitivity and the weather resistance (stability), eliminate toxicity, make the manufacture comparatively easy, and reduce the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: For this optical recording medium, on a supporting body 1, a recording layer 2 comprising a light non-metal interstitial compound of a transition metal, or a mixed phase of the interstitial compound and the transition metal, is laminated, and a recording bit is formed when the light non-metal interstitial compound of the transition metal in the recording layer 2 is composition-decomposed by the radiation of a laser recording beam into a transition metal single unit. In this case, the reflectance of the laser reproducing beam in the recording bit is increased compared to a non-irradiation part of the laser recording beam. |
