PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a catalyst carrier to be used even at a temperature of 1000 deg.C or higher by constituting a catalyst carrier for purifying exhaust gas from a porous structure prepared by converting the laminated plate of a heat- resistant ceramic fiber nonwoven fabric into an inorganic material and a heat- resistant ceramic coating layer formed on the fiber surface of the structure. SOLUTION: The catalyst carrier is formed from a porous structure 2 prepared by converting the laminated plate of a heat-resistant ceramic fiber into an inorganic material and a heat-resistant ceramic coating layer 4 formed on the surface of heat-resistant ceramic fibers 3 constituting the structure 2 and finished into a part shape. The fabric is formed from heat-resistant ceramic fibers such as silicon carbide fibers, silicon nitride fibers, alumina fibers, alumina-silica fibers, and carbon fibers. The coating layer 4 is formed from by the vapor deposition of silicon carbide, silicon nitride, and carbon on the surface of the heat-resistant ceramic fibers by a chemical vapor deposition method. |
