PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricant compsn. excellent in lubricity by incorporating a dehydrated castor oil fatty acid-mercapto fatty acid reaction product or a partial ester or salt thereof. SOLUTION: A pref. neutralization value of the dehydrated castor oil fatty acid-mercapto fatty acid reaction product is about 120-360. A part of carboxyl groups may be esterified in order to improve the solubility in a mineral oil, etc. A pref. neutralization value in the partial esterification is about 5-100. An oil-soluble lubricant compsn. can be prepd. by only mixing a base oil (e.g. a mineral oil) with the fatty acid reaction product or its partial ester, pref. in an amt. of 0.01-5 wt.%. A water-soluble lubricant compsn. can be prepd. by forming a salt with a base and dispersing in water, the concn. being pref. 0.01-5 wt.%. Alkali metal hydroxides (e.g. NaOH) are listed as examples of the base. |
