PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to form a functional coating film applied on the surface of a base in a uniform thickness up to the peripheral edge part of the base by previously providing a film piece protruding to the outside of the base on at least, a part of the peripheral edge part of the coated face of the base and applying a coating liquid after arranging so that the coating liquid flows down. SOLUTION: When applying a functional coat on the surface of a base, a film piece extruding to the outside of the base is previously provided on the peripheral edge part of a part of the coated face of the base and a coating liquid is applied after arranging so that the coating liquid flows down, by a coating method, for example, a dip coat method or the like, which enables a force to expel the coating liquid to the outside to be applied to the liquid coated to the surface of the base such as glass. The film piece to be used is preferably of a 50μm or less thickness and provided in such a way that it protrudes 0.5 cm or more to the outside of the base. Thus it is possible to sharply cut the liquid at the end part of the base and eliminate a stagnant liquid gathering on the peripheral edge part of the base, so that a uniform coating film thickness up to the peripheral edge part of the base is ensured.
