PREPARATION OF MODIFIED POLYOLEFIN-BASED AQUEOUS RESIN COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a particle size distribution sharp and improve physical properties of coating film such as water resistance and gasohol resistance by throwing an organic solvent solution of modified polyolefins into an aqueous solution of an emulsifying agent and emulsifying the mixture by using an emulsifier with a finely dividing mechanism. SOLUTION: An organic solvent solution of modified polyolefins or an oil- based solution of a polymerizable monomer is thrown into an aqueous solution of an emulsifying agent obtained by dispersing an emulsifying agent in an aqueous dispersing medium to pre-disperse and the dispersion is thrown into an emulsifier having a finely dividing mechanism in which a rotor is composed of agitating blades rotating at 2,000-22,000 rpm and a screen surrounding the agitating blades comprises a securing ring having a lot of slits and a distance between the rotor and the screen is 0.1-5 mm to emulsify for 10-300 seconds, preferably 30-250 seconds and more preferably 50-240 seconds to obtain a modified polyolefin-based aqueous resin composition containing emulsion particles having an average particle diameter of 0.01-1.0μm.
