PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogen chloride adsorbent and the producing.regenerating method for efficiently removing gaseous hydrogen chloride from a waste gas generated at the time of heating a combustible material containing an organic material. SOLUTION: The hydrogen chloride adsorbent prepared by usingγ-Al2 O3 as a carrier and carrying cerium dioxide on the carrier is used as a base constituent. The carrying quantity of cerium dioxide is preferably controlled to 2-10 wt.%. Further the hydrogen chloride adsorbent is prepared by carrying cerium dioxide, in which Pt is added, on the carrier. The adding quantity of Pt is controlled to 1 wt.% and the carrying quantity of cerium dioxide is controlled to 15-20 wt.%. The carrier is formed like a honeycomb. As the producing method, the hydrogen chloride adsorbent is prepared by dipping the carrier in a Ce(NO3 )3 .6H2 O salt solution or a salt solution of H2 PtCl6 and Ce(NO3 )3 .6H2 O to impregnate with cerium dioxide and firing the carrier under a condition of a prescribed atmosphere, temp. and time.
