PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optionally adjust a backlash quantity by forming the meshing tooth flank of a gear coupling in parallel with the axis, inclining the tooth flank of its back face against the axis by the prescribed angle, and changing the relative positions in the axial direction of both tooth flanks. SOLUTION: The contact faces between the external teeth and the internal teeth of a drive side gear section 50 and a driven side gear section 60 in the normal rotating direction of couplings are formed in parallel with the axis 70 of the couplings, and the contact faces between the external teeth and the internal teeth in the direction opposite to the rotating direction are inclined against the axis 70 by the proper angleθ. When backlashes C formed between the external teeth 23, 23' and the internal teeth 24, 24' of the drive side gear section 50 and the driven side gear section 60 are to be adjusted, the thicknesses of adjusting metals 19, 20 are changed so that the sum of the thicknesses of the adjusting metals 19, 20 at two places becomes the difference: L-11 between the size L fixed by side covers 5, 6 and the flange sections 1'a, 2'a of coupling hubs 1, 2 and the sum 11 of the lengths of coupling covers 3, 4.
