PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil seal which can prevent foreign matter attached to the outside surface of a shaft from intruding to the inside even in case a shaft misalignment occurs with respect to the axis of the oil seal when the shaft is fitted in and assembled in the oil seal set in place previously. SOLUTION: An oil seal 16 is structured so that a seal lip 21 and a dust lip 25 are formed on a ring-shaped seal body 19, wherein the dust lip 25 is equipped with an open edge 27 to contact tightly with the peripheral surface of a shaft to be fitted in the oil seal 16 and is furnished with an easily deformable portion so that at the time of displacement such as shaft misalignment, the open edge 27 can comply with the generated misalignment while its condition tightly contacted with the shaft peripheral surface is maintained. This easily deformable portion is configured with an approx. constant wall thickness from the root 29 of the dust lip 25 for the seal body 19 to near the open edge, and the section of the dust lip 25 assumes an approx. L-shape. |
