The carriage frame (1) has one or more support rods (11) and handgrips (14). The frame is supported by a number of wheels (13). On one of the handgrips (14) is a brake assembly (2). The brake assembly has an operating handle (23), linked via a Bowden cable (17) to a lever (15). The lever is mounted on a wheel support bracket (12). When the brake handle (23) is pulled upwards, the lever (15) pivots and applies a brake to the circumference of the wheel (13).
