The invention relates to the use of a wind-powered turbine 20 for, by means of a mechanical rotor/pump coupling 21 and a hydraulic circuit 22, desalinating water with osmotic membranes 14. To this end, we supply filtered salt water 23 to a pump A which is moved by mechanical elements from the aeromotor, pressurising the fluid in the desalination circuit in order to obtain product 24 and reject 25 water. Desalination plants using reverse osmosis with actuation of a pump at a constant rate, and also air turbines designed generally to extract power from the wind and to convert it into electrical energy are applicable. The invention provides compact aeromotor/mechanical coupling/desalination circuit equipment which is easy to maintain and inexpensive, and which can be used in smallholdings and isolated settlements. When the scarcity of drinking water is a problem, both for urban and agricultural uses, it applies principally to large areas of underdeveloped countries. <IMAGE>
