The steering system has a steering column assembly (2), on one end of which a steering wheel (3) is fitted. The steering wheel has a central cushion (4) that is equipped with an inflatable airbag module (5). A system (12) is provided to control the position of the airbag module with respect to the steering wheel to allow it to be adapted to the shape and size of the driver of the vehicle.
