Reflective optical modulator especially for a Q-switched fiber laser

A reflective optical modulator has a bi-directional coupler with reflectors formed by the free ends of two lines of controllable refractive index. A reflective optical modulator has a bi-directional coupler with reflectors formed by the free ends of two lines of controllable refractive index to provide the optical paths with indices which are equal or have a difference of n/* lambda /2, where n is an odd number and lambda is the wavelength of light in the modulator. An Independent claim is also included for a Q-switched laser including the above modulator or a modulator which can be electrically controlled between an energy dissipation state and an energy interference reflective state.
