The reel is provided with an automatic return drive, which can be spring loaded, and with an automatic brake to stop the reel in a preset position. The brake is operated by a flexible brake element, or cable, which is wound around a guide section of the reel and which provides a preset tension brake force at the programmed position. The brake element can be an elastic cord, or can be fitted with spring tensioners at each end. When the braking position is reached the brake system has a set amount of damping to provide a soft stop.
