A process for preparing coated particles comprises providing template particles and coating with a multilayer comprising: (a) alternating layers of oppositely charged nanoparticles and polyelectrolytes; and/or (b) alternating layers of oppositely charged nanoparticles. An Independent claim is also included for hollow shell obtained by disintegrating the template particle of coated particles.
