The invention refers to a method for estimating the stoichiometric deviation of chromium oxide by differential thermoanalysis, by which a sample of nonstoichiometric chromium oxide is introduced in the crucible of a derivatograph. The sample is heated at a constant rate of 10 degrees C/min, between the room temperature and 1000 degrees C. The water that has been absorbed by the chromium oxide sample is thus eliminated and the chromium oxide becomes anhydrous and oxidises into stoichimetric chromium oxide which enables, by weighing, the estimation of the stoichiometric deviation by plotting the thermo-gravimetric curves, TG, and the differential thermal analysis curves, ATD.
