The engine exhaust gas extraction device has a rail (1) extending in the travel direction of the vehicles within the upper part of the garage, supporting a traveling carriage (3) with a depending suction hose (5) with a suction fitting at its free end which can be fitted to an engine exhaust. The traveling carriage has a pneumatically, electrically, electromagnetically, or mechanically operated braking device (11) cooperating with the rail, which is operated upon the suction fitting being released from the exhaust.
