Aqueous detergents for hard surfaces contain (A) fatty acid polyglycol ester sulfates; (B) mixed ethers and optionally also (C) anionic, nonionic and/or amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactants. PREFERRED COMPOSITION - (A) is a compound of formula R<1>COO(AO)xSO3X, where R<1>CO = optionally unsaturated 6-22C acyl; x = on average 1-3; AO = -CH2CH2O-, -CH2CH(CH3)O- or -CH(CH3)CH2O- group; X = alkali(ne earth) metal, or (alkyl, alkanol or gluc)ammonium. (B) is of formula R<2>O(CH2CH2O)n1(CH2CH(CH3)O)m1(CH2CH2O)n2(CH2CH(CH3)O)m2R<3> where R<2> = 6-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R<3> = H, 1-8C alkyl or benzyl; n1 and n2 = 0 or 1-20, with at least one being other than 0; m1 and m2 = 0 or 1-3
