The press assembly, to press a veneer (25) on to the surfaces of a workpiece (2) including the side surfaces, has a press cushion (3) so that the press units (5-7) forces the workpiece against the counter surface (1) and in the elastic cushion to press the veneer against the workpiece surfaces. A recess (10) is at the surface of the cushion counter section (5,6), with a cross-section matching the dimensions of the workpiece. The cushion and a support cushion are elastic and inflatable by a fluid under pressure.
