The automotive torque converter (10) has a housing (12) coupled to the engine. The housing encloses a turbine (24) rotating about an axis (A) within a cowl (26). The cowl is linked to the turbine hub (28) and in turn to the converter drive output shaft. A bridging clutch (50) links the housing and turbine. A torsion oscillation damper (36) is located in the transmission between the housing and hub, and/or between the cowl and hub. An adjustable friction lining (44) is positioned parallel to a second torsion oscillation damper (16).
