The component parts of a vehicle instrument panel has one outer section (4) in a defined position on the lateral carrier (3) in the row of panel sections (4,5) which form a length smaller than the carrier to give a projection (15,16) at both ends. One outer panel section has a projecting inwards length (10) with a limit edge (9) for the side of the center section and the end edge (8) of the projection forms a gap (14) against the side edge (12) of the other outer panel section (5), to be brought together without a gap. The first panel section (4) is rigidly fixed by mountings (17,18), while the mountings (21,22;19,20) for the other outer panel section (5) and the center section allow a longitudinal movement before being locked in place. The carrier and panel sections (4,5) are of materials with the same thermal coefficient of expansion.
