The invention relates to an electric shopping cart for hypermarkets or other entities and has an optical reader system 34 for the client to monitor his or her purchases. In accordance with the invention, it consists of a metal (wire), hard plastic or fibre structure 23. It has a bench part 15 that can carry two people and the basket 24, characterized by a battery 1, electric handle 6 for moving and changing direction, and it also has two pedals at the bottom like a car accelerator 16 serving for accelerating or decelerating in accordance with the commands at the rear wheels, and there are electric motors 17 and 18 that in accordance with their order cause movement or a change of direction of the cart, and it is also equipped with sensors that make it slow down or stop when it is less than 30 cm from an object. In accordance with this system, Figure 3 shows the machine seen from the side with the cavities for fitting the carts 26 and 28 in order for these to be loaded via two positive 30 and negative 31 terminals. It has coils 26 that open by means of the swiping of the magnetic card 25 so that the client can pull out the cart ,using the same system 27 to replace it. This system is linked to a central computer that registers the name of the customer and the time he or she used the cart in order to actuate it, and it is also necessary for the customer to insert a token in the cavity of the cart, which he or she acquired together with the magnetic card and the first electric circuit is switched on and then coins have to be inserted in a cavity 10 and, lastly, the respective coin for the fee to pay for the use of the cart has to be inserted.
