A battery has a battery container defining an enclosed volume and an unenclosed volume. A plurality of battery cells are located within the enclosed volume. The battery has a pair electrical connector assembly (208, 228). Each battery electrical connector assembly has a first end (220, 240) which is located in the enclosed volume and connects to the battery posts (66, 68), and a second end (218, 238) having a pin connector (210, 230) which is located in the unenclosed volume. More specifically, the pin connectors (210, 230) are located within the indentations formed between two of the battery cells on the ends or the sides (72, 74) or within the openings (94, 96) formed between the four battery cells in the interior of the battery. A battery tray for receiving the battery is also provided with a pair electrical connectors which are adapted to slidingly engage with the pin connectors (210, 230) of the second end of the battery electrical connectors when the battery is installed within the battery tray. The battery electrical connectors (208, 228) may be molded into the battery cover (200) and may be welded to the existing positive and negative battery posts (66, 68). |
