BATCH PREHEATER

A batch preheater (4) has a charging shaft (14) carried by a supporting structure (64) and batch retaining fingers associated to the bottom end of the charging shaft. According to the invention, the batch preheater (4) comprises a frame (28) in which several retaining fingers (20) are mounted. This frame (28) is mounted in such a way in the supporting structure (64) of the charging shaft (14) that it can move in the vertical direction. The frame (28) which is vertically movable in the supporting structure (64) of the charging shaft (14) is supported on a support (32) which is statically independent of the supporting structure (64) of the charging shaft (14) to transmit the forces which act on the retaining fingers (20) when said fingers are closed.
