Urethane-modified non ionic celluloses, a process for their production and their use as thickening additive

New nonionic, water-soluble cellulose derivatives with free OH groups are obtained by reacting a cellulose compound selected from methyl-, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl-, carboxy(m)ethyl-, hydroxyethylmethyl, hydroxypropylmethyl and hydroxyethyl cellulose, with 0.2-10 (preferably 0.2-5.0) wt.% of a polyfunctional isocyanate. An Independent claim is also included for a method of preparing the derivatives.
