PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle travel control system which can securely prevent the accident of a collision against a precedent or following vehicle or a guard rail, etc., even if a vehicle enters an abnormal travel state of a speed decrease, an excessive speed, derailing, etc., as a vehicle travel control system which performs automatic travel control over multiple vehicles. SOLUTION: This vehicle travel control system is equipped with a vehicle travel abnormality detecting device which detects travel abnormality of a vehicle according to speed information on the vehicle inputted from a vehicle control unit; and the vehicle travel abnormality of the vehicle is detected according to the speed or derailing state of the vehicle and the vehicle having entering the travel abnormality state and all vehicles following the vehicle are all stopped by the instruction from a roadside system.
