PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make feasible direct connection of tunneling junction molecules to a fullerene, by forming a coupling of cyclopropane ring in a single electron transistor structure including quantum dot. SOLUTION: A molecular single electron transistor is composed of a quantun dot 11 made of a fullerene, insulating molecules 12, 13 displaying tunneling junction characteristics, conductive molecules 14, 15 displaying conductive characteristics, a gate insulating body 16 consisting of an insulate molecule forming an insulating gate and a gate 17 comprising conductive molecules. The conductive molecule 14 and the conductive molecule 15 respectively function as a source and a drain. In such a constitution, when a potential is impressed to the gate 17, the potential of the quantum dot 11 made of the fullerene is fluctuated by the potential fluctuation, and as a resultant, the channel current flowing between the source 14 and the drain 15 changes corresponding to the gate potential. Furthermore, the width of the tunnel junction and the barrier height, etc., can be controlled by changing the insulator molecular structure. |
