PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a ferrielectric liquid crystal composition having a small spontaneous polarization and excellent in responsiveness. SOLUTION: This ferrielectric liquid crystal composition is obtained by mixing one or more kinds selected from a compound represented by formula II [R<2> is a straight-chain alkyl group or a straight-chain alkoxyalkylene group; A is a direct bond, O or COO; B is O or COO; both Y<1> and Y<2> are hydrogen atoms or either one is hydrogen atom and the other is fluorine atom; both Z<1> and Z<2> are hydrogen atoms or either one is hydrogen atom and the other is fluorine atom; (p) is 0 or 1; R<3> is an alkyl group or an alkoxyalkyl group which may be substituted with fluorinel with a ferrielectric liquid crystal comprising a mixture of two or more kinds selected from a ferrielectric liquid crystal compound represented by formula I [R<1> is a 6-12C straight-chain alkyl group; both X<1> and X<2> are hydrogen atoms or either one is hydrogen atom and the other is fluorine atom; (m) and (n) are each an integer of 1-3].
