摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device by which a numerical aperture is improved without sacrificing quality and reliability, etc., in display by optimizing the structure of a black matrix formed on a substrate being the same as that of a matrix array. SOLUTION: A molybdenum silicide layer 216bb (conductive light shielding layer) having light shielding property and conductivity is formed at the front surface side of an upper layer side inter-layer insulating film 215 and also at the lower layer side of a picture element electrode 206 and made to coincide with the outer end edge 206x of the electrode 206. Then, the respective molybdenum silicide layers 216bb... are used as the black matrix. Therefore, positioning precision does not become a problem since the layers 216bb are made a margin in positioning an opposed substrate side black matrix. Besides, the potential of the layers 216bb is in a state where the potential being the same as that of the electrode 206 is impressed and the oriented state of liquid crystal is not disturbed so that high display quality is obtained.
