PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for applying a liquid or a paste-state coating medium directly or indirectly to a moving material web of, for example, paper or carton. SOLUTION: This ink curtain coating apparatus comprises at least one sensor apparatus, at least one control apparatus, and a control unit. The sensor apparatus detects the brushing amount of a coating medium layer to be applied to the material web 18, and generates a brushing amount signal corresponding to the brushing amount. The control apparatus changes the control amount of at least one of ink curtain coating mechanism, and the control amount depends on the brushing amount of the coating medium layer applied to the material web 18. The control unit receives the brushing amount signal generated by at least one sensor apparatus, detects at least one aiming value for at least one control amount dependently on the brushing amount signal, and controls at least one control apparatus based on at least one aiming value of the control amount.
