摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact and thin illuminator related to a display device by making the thickness of a light emitting part illuminating a liquid crystal display board smaller than that of a light incident part making light from a light source incident in a diffusion light transmission plate. SOLUTION: Relating to this illuminator; the light from the light source 332 entering from the side surface of the light transmission plate 330 is diffused inside the plate 330 and becomes a surface light source so as to illuminate the above liquid crystal panel (LCD). A holding member 331 surrounds the bottom surface and the side surface of the plate 330. The plate 330 is thick enough to make all the parallel beams from the light source 332 incident on the plate 330 on the light incident surface 330a. The light is reflected and guided to an irradiation surface 330b by a light guide surface 330c. Since the surface 330b is constituted so that it may be thinner than the surface 330a and the LCD may be installed on its upper surface, the illuminator is thinned without lowering its illumination efficiency.
