摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain improvement in the availability of a memory for temporarily storing image data or a wavelet conversion coefficient, and to enhance the speed of processing in an encoder and a decoder. SOLUTION: A memory part 200 consists of a tile memory 202 of eight bit depths and a coefficient extension work memory 204 of twelve bit depths, having a quarter number of words. Coefficient data are stored in the tile memory 202 upto their eight bit depths, and more than eight bit depths of them are stored in the work memory 204 in a form in which four coefficients are stacked. The memory part 200, the wavelet conversion part 210 and an encoding/ decoding part 220 are mounted on one chip. The image data are fetched from a frame memory 240 by a tile, restored image data are written out in the frame memory 240 by a tile.</p>
