PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane lighting device having uniform luminance on its light emitting surface. SOLUTION: A plane lighting device comprises a light guide plate 1, which is formed with a light incident surface 2 on its side surface and a notch part 4 for positioning at least in one end of the light incident surface 2, and a linear light source facing to the light incident surface 2. Of two minute side surfaces 11, 12 appearing in the notch part 4 of the light guide plate 1, only the minute side surface 11 orthogonal to the light incident surface 2 is covered with a light-absorbing material 11a.
