SUBSTANCE: mixture contains at least 70% tungsten carbide, 2 to 15% iron-group metal binder, one or more carbides, nitrides, and carbido-nitrides of IVb, Vb, and VIb group elements and, according to invention, from 1 to 8% thallium (niobium) oxide and powdered elementary carbon in stoichiometric quantity for reaction: Ta(Nb)2O3+7C- >2Ta(Nb)C+5CO. The thus prepared caked product has more uniform fine structure and is distinguished by low spread of Wickers hardness and impact resistance characteristics.
