The device comprises a frame construction (1) with two parallel rotation axles (17a, 17b) and support bands (20, 21) wound around and extending between these axles. The frame is placed over the grave (36) with the bands extending widthways across it, then the coffin is rested on top of the bands and the axles are rotated synchronously to lower the coffin into the grave. Hatches (26, 27) fold down flat from the sides of the frame to cover at least part of the grave, enabling a vehicle with a coffin on it to be wheeled into the frame. The coffin is transferred to the support bands, the vehicle is wheeled out again and the hatches are raised to allow the coffin to be lowered. |
