Method for identifying and/or cloning regions of nucleic acids that are differently spliced in two different physiological situations comprises hybridizing RNA originating from a test situation with cDNA originating from a reference situation and identifying and/or cloning nucleic acids corresponding to differential splicing. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for identifying and/or cloning regions of nucleic acids that are differently spliced in two different physiological situations A and B, comprising: (a) forming heteroduplexes in a liquid phase between mRNA originating from situation A and cDNA originating from situation B; (b) forming heteroduplexes in a liquid phase between mRNA originating from situation B and cDNA originating from situation A; and (c) identifying and/or cloning RNA regions that are not paired off in steps (a) and (b); (2) a method for identifying and/or cloning regions of nucleic acids that are differently spliced in two different physiological situations A and B, comprising: (a) forming heteroduplexes between mRNA originating from situation A and cDNA originating from situation B, where the mRNA or cDNA is immobilized on a support; (b) forming heteroduplexes between mRNA originating from situation B and cDNA originating from situation A, where the mRNA or cDNA is immobilized on a support; and (c) identifying and/or cloning RNA regions that are not paired off in steps (a) and (b); (3) a composition comprising nucleic acids identified and/or cloned by the above methods; (4) a nucleic acid composition comprising nucleic acids corresponding to alternative splicing that distinguishes two physiological situations of a cell or tissue; (5) libraries of nucleic acids or oligonucleotides specific for alternative splicing that distinguishes two physiological situations of a cell or tissue, or of microorganisms transformed with such nucleic acids; (6) a composition comprising a compound capable of interfering with the alternatively spliced products identified by the above methods.
