PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the distortion of a signal waveform in a transmission system having a multi-stage optical amplifier for effective improvement of the optical signal-to-noise ratio. SOLUTION: A wavelength dispersion compensator 2 and an optical element 1, having a saturable absorbing region are connected in series to form an optical equalizer, an optical signal is inputted from an optical fiber 3a to the input end of the wavelength dispersion compensator 2, and an optical signal having a signal to noise ratio improved by eliminating the waveform distortion is sent out to an optical fiber 3b from the output end of the optical element 1, which has the saturable absorbing region. |
