Producing corrected value for vehicle dashboard instrument from raw data

A sensor (4) measuring a quantity such as fuel tank level produces a signal through an analogue chain and filter (6) which is changed to digital form at a digital/analogue convertor (8). A polynomial correcting function is then applied (10) to give a correct dashboard indicating instrument signal (12). The polynomial is of second or greater order and it's coefficients are found from known correspondence between raw and corrected data
