PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a motion vector in real time though using a simple hardware. SOLUTION: A main processor 100 reads a pixel from a macro block of a current picture from a global memory 102 and a pixel of a 1st search area of a reference picture and stores them to a local memory 104 and applies sub- sampling to the pixels and stores the result to a first buffer 106. A motion vector detection co-processor 108 receives the pixel from the 1st buffer 106 to detect a 1st motion vector. The processor 100 reads the 1st motion vector from a second buffer 110 for detecting a 2nd motion vector of the macro block from a 2nd search area including a block having the pixel pointed out by the 1st vector and a reference point of peripheral pixels of the pixel of the reference picture. |
